Kauma Launches Portable Solar Submersible Pump in Chibombo, Mumbwa and Chongwe Kauma has introduced an innovative Portable Solar Submersible Pump to farmers in Chibombo, Mumbwa and Chongwe, providing a game-changing solution for small-scale farmers. Traditionally, many farmers have been unable to access solar submersible pumps due to two major challenges—the high cost of bigger systems and the lack of boreholes. Kauma’s new portable solar pump addresses both issues. Unlike conventional pumps, this new model does not require a borehole. It works perfectly with open wells and needs no installation. Farmers simply carry it to the garden, irrigate their crops, and take it back home when done. This level of convenience and affordability is set to transform irrigation for smallholder farmers, making year-round farming more accessible and productive.

Kauma Signs MOU with Jacana Foundation to Expand Access to Portable Solar Pumps Kauma Farms has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Jacana Foundation, the pioneers of the portable solar pump, to make this innovative irrigation solution more accessible to farmers in Chongwe and Chibombo. Through this partnership, Kauma Farms will not only sell portable solar pumps directly to farmers but will also distribute them through local shopkeepers in the selected areas. This means farmers in Mumbwa, Chibombo, and Chongwe can now access these pumps closer to home, reducing barriers to irrigation technology. We further encourage shopkeepers in the targeted areas, as well as organizations working with farmers, to partner with us in bringing this affordable and practical solution to more farming communities.

Kauma Installs 4HP Solar Submersible Pump with Drip Irrigation in Mumbwa Kauma has successfully installed a 4HP solar submersible pump with a drip irrigation system on a two-hectare field in Mumbwa. The lead farmer, Mr. Alick Moyo, together with his team, is now producing maize all year round thanks to this sustainable technology. Mr. Moyo shared that the project has not only boosted their incomes but also improved household access to clean water. Remarkably, for the first time, the team recorded three harvests in 2024, showcasing the transformative power of solar-powered irrigation.
